If you are in need of accommodations while visiting UW-Madison during Visit Day, please consider these three options.
- A block of hotel rooms has been reserved for visiting students at the AC Hotel Madison for April 2nd and April 3rd. Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis with another visiting student of the same gender. If you are interested in this option, please indicate your request on the registration form. If you stay at the AC Hotel with the reserved block of rooms, the department will pay for the room directly and the cost will not be deducted from your travel reimbursement allotment. You will be responsible for incidentals and incidental charges cannot be reimbursed.
- Every year some current PhD students in our program volunteer to host prospective students at their homes. If you are interested in this option, please indicate your request on the registration form. We’ll keep your name on the list of prospective students hoping to be hosted by a current student.
- If you do not wish to participate in the room block at the AC Hotel, you may make local lodging arrangements on your own and you may be reimbursed for your actual lodging rate up to a maximum rate of $131 per night (State Rate). Rooms must be booked directly with the hotel. The UW will not reimburse you for reservations made through third party vendors (Expedia, Hotels.com, Kayak, Airbnb, etc.) or lodging at a hostel. When making your hotel reservations, you may ask for the State Rate as a guest of the UW-Madison, Department of Economics PhD Visit Day. However, hotels are not obligated to provide that rate. Please review the Reimbursement page for more details. If you have further questions, please contact Dana Rockett, dana.rockett@wisc.edu.
