What has been your favorite Econ course?
Econ 410; it’s intensive but the course material is very interesting and aligns with research
If you have any other majors or certificates in addition to Econ, how did you decide to add Econ or add the other major/certificate?
My other major, Statistics, aligns well with Economics since it gives a quantitative and analytical edge and since I’m interested in research it benefits there as well.
I am doing a certificate in Education Policy Studies since I’m really interested in education and its intersection with economics and want that to be an area of research for me.
How do you manage your course load?
I prioritize class work depending on my strengths and weaknesses. Obviously, library lock in sessions are needed but I try to do most of my work between classes and breaks since that’s when I’m most productive!
Where did you intern/research, and did you have a good experience? Why or why not?
I am doing an internship with the Small Business Advocacy Council as a Policy Research Intern. It’s a very interesting opportunity since I get to learn a lot about ongoing policies and reforms that are and need to be promoted for the upliftment of small businesses and is a good interaction between economics, policy and research.
What advice do you have for students seeking an internship/research experience?
Firstly, don’t get disheartened and keep applying and also try to look for alumni or people in your field and talk to them since real world experience matters a lot.
Do you know what you want to do after graduation? If yes, what? If not, what advice would you give to another student who may not know either?
After graduation, I hope to work in education economics and policy research analysis using quantitative methods to analyze how education systems impact long term economic outcomes. I’m also interested in research roles at think tanks or policy institutions.
